More Darjeeling links

24 05 2008

I love the way the universe works. It seems to give little hints and messages all the time. All we have to do is be open to them and then try to decipher the meaning. My life is chock full of ‘coincidences’, only I don’t consider them to be random.

The latest: I wrote in a post about ten days ago that I had been invited to return to Darjeeling in November. I haven’t made a final decision as yet but I really would like to go. I emailed some friends in Darjeeling and they have offered to help out in any way from their end which is lovely of them.

Then yesterday I received an email from Glenburn tea estate which I visited for a day (and it is a truly magnificent place!). It wasn’t a personal email but a newsletter. Only I hadn’t heard anything from them in a year and then yesterday I got the newsletter. A link to Darjeeling.

This morning I received another email that totally surprised and delighted me. I’ve mentioned before that I visited the zoo in Darjeeling and fell in love with the snow leopards. The supervisor of animals very kindly showed us around the breeding centre which is usually off limits to the public. He also gave us some superb sketches of the animals he had done. Out of the blue I received an email from this man! Well over a year after my visit to the zoo. I must have given him my email address although I don’t quite remember. Anyway he was wanting to keep in touch and has been ill hence the time delay in his email.

So two links to Darjeeling in two days just a few weeks after meeting the man involved in projects in the areas. This is after no links in a year. Is this is a hint that I should go in November, do you think? It might mean other things. For instance, Darjeeling is very connected with the spiritual tradition I follow and I have family links there too, so it could just be reinforcing the spiritual work I’m currently doing is on the right track. One way or the other, I know for sure that Darjeeling hasn’t seen the last of me yet. There is a strong link with the place and I know I am bound to be involved in projects there and visiting the place again.

Upendra, I like the thought that Darjeeling remembers me :-) Yes the links are coming thick and fast and they are certainly pointing toward my return. I am pretty sure at the moment that I will go in November. If not, I will go within the next year.

As for the family links – my father went to school at St Paul’s and I’ve grown up hearing stories of Darjeeling. All my life it has been in my consciousness and I’ve wanted to visit. Going on the toy train (steam version) was a highlight for me – having heard about it forever… I could just picture this young boy jumping off and running across the Bastasia loop to jump back on the train on the other side. I went to St Paul’s and looked around it. A weird sensation knowing my dad had spent so many years there so many years ago. He was thrilled to hear all my reports of the place – he has never returned but still has a deep and abiding love for Darjeeling.
